StopMotion FlipView - Windows and Mac
StopMotion FlipView plays a folder of JPG, TIF, PSD, or PNG images as a movie. It's the viewer component of a digital classic animation production chain.

The best way to learn about StopMotion FlipView, what it does, and how it works, is to follow through this demonstration on your own computer. Of course, you'll have to
download StopMotion FlipView for Windows
or
download StopMotion FlipView for Mac
and install the software on your machine. Once it's installed, open the program and you're ready to go! The free trial lets you use StopMotion FlipView a maximum of 20 times over a period of 30 days. Hover the mouse pointer over the controls and you'll see pop-up descriptions of what the controls do. (I'll elaborate on some of them further down on this page.) The first thing you'll do is choose a folder of images to view. You can choose the folder in two ways. You can click the Choose folder button to browse for the folder, and then click one of the Image type radio buttons, or (the easiest way) just drag one image file from the folder you want to look at (using Windows Explorer or the Mac Finder) onto the image area of the StopMotion FlipView window. Dragging the image file sets both the folder you want to look at and the type of image you want to view. StopMotion FlipView tells you it's checking everything it finds in the folder, with a progress bar to show what's happening. Once it's checked the folder, you'll see the first image in the image area. The image area is 640x480 pixels, and the images are always sized and centered to fit in that area. Tall (portrait format) images will have black bars on either side and wide (landscape format) images will have black bars on top and bottom. Use the scroll bar under the image to go through the images in the folder. As you "scrub" through the folder, you'll see motion starting to happen! The left and right arrow keys let you step through the frames, and text below the scroll bar tells you what folder you're in and the filename of the image you're looking at. The Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys do what you'd expect them to do to move among the images in the folder. And then.... (drum roll!) click on the Play button. The movie plays at whatever frame rate you've set. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to adjust the frame rate while you're playing the movie, and click on the Forward, Reverse, or Ping pong radio buttons to change direction. The Play button now reads Stop. Click on it again to stop the playback. StopMotion FlipView remembers the folder you were in, the image type, flipping speed and direction settings so that next time you open the program, you will be right where you left off.
