StopMotion FlipThumbStopMotion FlipThumb plays a folder of JPG, TIF, PSD, or PNG images as a movie in a compact (200x150 pixel) window. It's the compact viewer component of a digital classic animation production chain using my StopMotion software.  The above is an actual size screenshot of FlipThumb for Windows. (The Mac version looks just the same.) The animation window is 200 pixels by 150 pixels - large enough to be useful (as you can see from the 12 frame "Happy Face" phenakistoscope it's showing) but not taking up too much room on your desktop. It's also simple to use. Just locate a folder of the PNG, TIFF, PSD or JPG images you want to view. Drag one of the images onto the viewing window, and FlipThumb loads the images in alphanumeric order into the viewing window. When you click the Play button, the images flip in the forward direction (alphanumerically lowest to highest) at the rate you've set in the frames per second number field. The maximum speed is 30 frames per second. You can enter different frame rates while the movie is playing. The Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys adjust the frame rate up and down. When the movie isn't playing, the Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys step you through the frames, or you can scrub through the movie with the scroll bar. The Home, End, Page Up and Page Down keys work as you'd expect them to for scrolling through the frames. The information line above the frames per second entry field shows the name of the folder you are viewing and the filename extension of the type of image you are looking at. I decided (arbitrarily, to be sure) that FlipThumb would only look at one type of image at a time. You can use the Spacebar, Return, and Enter keys to start and stop playback as well. StopMotion FlipThumb remembers the folder and type of image you were looking at, and the flipping speed, between sessions so you come back to exactly where you finished in your last session.
